成人英語三級考試中的閱讀理解部分是對應試者閱讀能力的一次綜合性檢測。主要測試以下6大類問題：

1.提問文章主要觀點

比如會經常出現下列提問形式（選擇題題干）：

（1）Which of the following is the main point of the passage?

（2）The author is primarily concerned with.

考生應當排除文中的次要觀點，歸納和總結其中的主要觀點或中心思想，或者基本目標。

2.提問文中的具體論據

（1）The author mentions which of the following...?

（2）According to the author…

（3）The author provides information that would answer which of the following questions.

這類提問主要用來測試考生理解文中各個論據的能力，區別文中的主要觀點的能力。考生不公應仔細閱讀，還要有耐心各信心選擇正確答案。

3.提問文章的邏輯結構

（1）The author develops the passage primarily by…

（2）Which of the following best explains why the author introduces…?

或者提問作者采用何種途徑說明事由，或者論證作者的論據是否充分，凡此都用來檢驗考生對文章的理解能力和評論能力。

4.尋求文章的推斷觀點

（1）The passage implies that…

（2）It can be inferred from the passage that…

（3）Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?

它要求考生能推斷話語中深層含義或弦外之音。因此考生要學會理解作者的內涵和反義，或者作者選用某一詞語的比喻用法。

5.猜測某一單詞或短語的具體含義

（1）The phrase"——"in the context means…

（2）The word"——"most nearly means…

（3）Which of the following is closest to the word"…"in paragraph 2?

這要求考生具有根據構詞法或上下文猜測詞匯或短語的能力。

6.作者的觀點和態度

（1）The author's attitude towards…

（2）What's the author's opinion about…?

這不僅用來測試考生在其他場合下如何應用作者思想的能力，而且檢驗考生識別事理關系能力，文中必有充分論據支持作者的態度、觀點和信仰等。
