cost 【注意】修飾cost要用副詞high或low.

●辨析cost, take, spend和pay

cost 及物動詞“花費”，指花費金錢、勞力和時間。主語通常是事或物，可跟雙賓語。

如: Electricity will cost more than it did last year. 電費比去年要花得多。

take 及物動詞“花費”，指花費時間。主語通常是一件事，也可以跟雙賓語。

如：It will take me two days to finish the work. 完成這項工作需要花費我兩天的時間。

spend 及物動詞“花費”，指花費時間和金錢，主語總是人。可以形成spend…on sth./in doing sth.

如：I pend two days going shopping with my wife. 我花了兩天的時間和妻子購物。

pay 及物動詞&不及物動詞“付錢”，后面可以跟雙賓語，也可以當不及物動詞使用，形成pay for sth.結構。

如：Dick’s uncle has to pay for his education as his father has come down in the world.

Dick的叔叔必須為他的教育付費，因為他的父親已經過世了。

[解答]B。句意：我們的口號是：數量的增加決不能以犧牲質量為代價。at the cost of為固定短語“以……為代價”。
